We are developing new kinds of colloids that interact with each other via specific directional interactions. Using a variety of interactions, including magnetic, lock-and-key shape recognition, and complementary DNA base-pair binding, we build complex coilloidal microstructures and seek to develop a scheme whereby these structures can self-replicate.
