Lynd Research Lab: Microbial Physiology
The Lynd lab has a long-standing focus on the fundamentals of microbial cellulose utilization and features of microbial physiology important for advanced biomass conversion processes. Current and recent work addresses:
- Bioenergetics (Zhang et al, 2005a)
- Kinetics and documentation of enzyme-microbe synergy (Lu et al, 2006)
- Development of methods for studying microbial cellulose utilization (Zhang et al, 2003; Panikov et al, 2009)
- Control of cellulase synthesis (Zhang et al, 2005b)
- Surface microbiology and substrate capture (Lynd et al, 2006)
- Product tolerance and inhibition
- Utilization of pretreated substrates
- The relation between dormant stages, arrest of metabolism, and environmental stress
