Visa Requirements for International Travelers
U.S. immigration regulations permit travel to the United States as a Visitor for Business to participate in conventions, conferences, consultations and other legitimate activities of a commercial or professional nature. According to the U.S. Foreign Affairs Manual, a Visitor for Business may enter the United States to participate in scientific, educational, professional or business conventions.
The Visa Waiver Program allows citizens of participating countries to travel to the United States as Visitors for Business or Pleasure for up to 90 days without having to obtain a U.S. visa. If you are eligible for Visa Waiver, you must obtain ESTA authorization prior to your travel. Upon entry to the United States you will be admitted for the time period coinciding with the purpose of your stay.
If you are not eligible for the Visa Waiver Program and you do not already have a B-1 Visitor for Business visa stamp in your passport, you will need to apply for a B-1 visa stamp at the U.S. Consulate or Embassy in your home country which has jurisdiction over your place of residence. Specific instructions and procedures for making your B-1 visa application can be found at the Department of State's website. Issuance of the B-1 visa stamp in your passport will enable you to travel to the United States, where you will be admitted for the time period coinciding with the purpose of your stay.
